Study Summary
This trial will test if using a motor-assisted elliptical in both forward and reverse modes can help improve gait and cardiorespiratory fitness.
Who is the study for?
This trial is for individuals with walking difficulties due to neurological injuries or illnesses like stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, or cerebral palsy. Participants must be able to stand for at least 5 minutes and follow simple commands. Those in other therapy/exercise programs, with unhealed bone fractures/breaks, unstable heart/lung conditions, pregnant women or those experiencing pain that limits walking are excluded.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests whether using the ICARE (motor-assisted elliptical) in both forward and reverse modes can improve walking ability and cardio fitness in people with neurological disorders. It compares the effects of starting training with either reverse or forward movements on gait and cardiovascular health.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While not explicitly mentioned here, potential side effects may include muscle soreness or fatigue from exercise on the ICARE trainer. There could also be a risk of falls if balance is affected during use.
