P-CHAT Trial Summary

This trial will compare the satisfaction and benefit of hearing aids fit using two patient self-fit methods against those fit using audiology-based best practices.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for individuals aged 50 to 79 with mild or moderate hearing difficulty, normal thinking skills, and no prior experience with hearing aids. They must be able to pay $650 for the devices, read and understand English, and have symmetric hearing loss that's not severe.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests two self-fit methods for hearing aids against the standard audiology-based fitting. Participants will be randomly placed into one of three groups to see which method provides better satisfaction and benefit after six weeks and six months.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
While this trial involves non-invasive interventions (hearing aids), potential side effects may include discomfort from improper fit, earwax buildup, feedback noises, or temporary worsening of hearing.
