This trial aims to test a new therapy called 'Expanding Communication and Language Generated in Conversation Treatment' (ECoLoGiC Treatment) to help improve language skills in people with aphasia after a

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking adults aged 18-85 with moderate to severe aphasia from a left hemisphere stroke at least 6 months ago. They must be able to see and hear (with aids if necessary), produce phrases, understand simple language, and read at least single words. Right-handed individuals before their stroke are eligible.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The ECoLoGiC Treatment aims to improve conversation skills in people with aphasia. It involves twice-weekly sessions over 10 weeks where patients practice talking with therapists who guide them progressively. Additionally, family members receive training to support the patient's communication at home.See study design

Since this therapy focuses on speech-language pathology rather than medication or surgery, traditional side effects are not expected. However, participants may experience fatigue or frustration during the learning process.

Group I: Expanding Communication and Language Generated in Conversation TreatmentExperimental Treatment1 Intervention
Participants will complete 20 one-hour therapy sessions over 10 weeks with an experienced, trained, and licensed speech-language pathologist delivering Expanding Communication and Language Generated in Conversation Therapy, following the therapy protocol. Sessions will take place through casual conversational interactions, with incremental problem-solving and communication support by the speech-language pathologist.
